What makes a 'member'?
Some people look at church membership like it's just part of being in a club. Sign up, pay your dues and you're in...not a lot of commitment. That's simply not the way the church lives and behaves.
Also keep in mind, there are no examples of any Christians in the New Testament who are not connected to a church.
We were not meant to do this alone.
Membership isn't just a status to claim, a badge to wear, it is a life that is lived out. In fact, at Shively Christian Church, we know that we have been called to be fully committed followers of Jesus Christ, not simply a 'member' of a church somewhere, once we have been baptized into Him.
We are called to gather together in community to live like Jesus, worship fully & consistently, connect with others, serve in minstry & give generously. We have been called to grow deeper & reach the lost, and these are things we should desire to do, following Jesus' example.
Every member of the church should have a regular, active role here, something they do that serves God and other people. We keep that in mind with three simple phrases: go.serve, go.teach, go.equip. Every Christian has a gift or talent or leaning that can be used in service.
If you would like to talk with us about becoming a member and/or following Jesus Christ, please let us know.
